The Counselling and Psychotherapy Training Collaborative (CPTC) is a mutual-aid community of independent training providers operating across the UK.

We are the
Counselling and
Psychotherapy
Training
Collaborative

Our mission is to provide a supportive environment where members can share resources, exchange ideas, and reach out into the community as a united membership. We aim to promote excellence in counselling and psychotherapy training through mutual support, shared knowledge, and collective expertise.

Founded in 2026, we believe that by working together, we can provide a more comprehensive and effective training experience for our respective students. All of our members are experienced therapists with a variety of professional backgrounds, interests and qualifications.

Each member of the collaborative is responsible for delivering their own training programmes, but we work together to ensure that our students receive a well-rounded experience that covers all aspects of counselling and psychotherapy at their chosen level.

Our training programmes are bespoke and independently designed in-house based on years of experience of the therapy training sector. Collectively, we offer a range of courses, from introductory classes for those who are new to the field, to advanced training for experienced practitioners.

Membership

At the Counselling and Psychotherapy Training Collaborative (CPTC), we believe that group diversity is essential for the experiential training process to meet teaching standards and ethos. We are committed to maintaining a diverse and inclusive membership that reflects the broader community we serve.

To become a member of the CPTC, training providers must meet the following criteria:

  • Shared Values: Applicants must share our commitment to the values outlined in our charter, including professionalism, integrity, respect, collaboration, inclusivity, and continuous improvement.
  • Qualified Professionals: Applicants must hold a qualification in their subject area that is at least equal to the level at which it is being delivered.
  • Professional Standards: Applicants must adhere to high standards of ethical principles in all aspects of their work, delivering only the training that they are qualified and experienced in.
  • Commitment to Mutual Aid: Applicants must be committed to the principle of mutual aid and be willing to support other members in achieving common goals and enhancing the quality of services provided.
  • Autonomy from Awarding Bodies: Applicants must not be affiliated with an awarding body to maintain autonomy but may be quality checked or accredited by a professional body.
  • Prohibition of Conversion Therapy: Applicants must not provide training in conversion therapy, including neuro-normative conversion therapy.
  • Geographical Location: Applicants must be based in the United Kingdom.
  • Unanimous approval: Applicants must receive approval from two-thirds of the votes cast by existing members, excluding abstentions.

If you are a counselling or psychotherapy trainer and you are interested in joining the CPTC, please contact us for more information.

We welcome applicants who share our commitment to providing high-quality training and supporting the professional development of counselling and psychotherapy practitioners.
